Blanket Weed and Algae Removal.
Specialist blanket weed and algae removal across the UK, helping restore clear, open water with minimal environmental disturbance.

Why manage algae?
Problems Caused by Blanket Weed
Excessive algae growth can affect the appearance and practical use of a watercourse, while severe blooms can create wider environmental concerns.
- Spoil the appearance of lakes and ponds
- Produce unpleasant odours
- Restrict boats and water activities
- Reduce sunlight reaching submerged plant life
- Clog inlets, outlets, and water features
- Hamper fishing and other watersports
How We Manage Blanket Weed
Algae Removal & Control
Mechanical removal provides a targeted way to reduce excessive surface algae while limiting disturbance to submerged aquatic plant life.
Mechanical Algae Removal
The simplest form of blanket weed control is mechanical removal from the surface of the water. Truxor machinery can skim and collect floating algae, depositing the removed material on nearby banks so that it can be cleared from the site.
By removing algae from the surface while leaving submerged aquatic plant life largely undisturbed, this approach can help restore open water while retaining plants that contribute oxygen to the watercourse.

Addressing Recurring Algae Growth
Recurring algae problems can be associated with nutrient-rich conditions and accumulated silt within the watercourse. Where appropriate, removing silt from the bottom can help reduce the nutrients available to support future algal growth.
Silt pumping and dredging can therefore form part of a longer-term approach where repeated blanket weed growth is linked to the condition of the watercourse, helping to reduce the likelihood of recurring algal blooms.

Harmful Algal Blooms
Excessive algal growth can sometimes develop into harmful algal blooms (HABs), including blooms commonly associated with blue-green algae. These blooms can produce toxins that pose risks to people, livestock, fish, birds, and other wildlife that come into contact with affected water.
Where a watercourse is affected by a suspected harmful algal bloom, appropriate testing, monitoring, and specialist environmental advice may be required alongside any physical removal or management work.
