Bulrush and Bur-reed Removal.
Aquaclear provides specialist bulrush and bur-reed cutting and removal services across the UK.

Why manage Bulrush?
Problems Caused by Excessive Growth
Bulrush and bur-reed can gradually spread from the margins into open water, restricting flow, reducing capacity, and limiting access.
- Block inlets and outlets
- Restrict water flow
- Reduce water depth and capacity
- Impede boats and watercraft
- Encroach into open water
- Increase the risk of flooding
How We Manage Bulrush & Bur-reed
Cutting & Clearance
Different levels of bulrush and bur-reed growth require different approaches, from targeted cutting and clearance to the removal of established root and rhizome systems.
Cutting & Clearance
Mechanical cutting provides a quick and effective way to reopen areas affected by excessive bulrush and bur-reed growth. Our precision cutting equipment can clear selected areas, create channels, and restore access without requiring the complete removal of marginal vegetation.
This targeted approach can help maintain water movement while retaining areas of vegetation that provide valuable habitat for aquatic and waterside wildlife. Cutting is therefore useful where the aim is to manage excessive growth while maintaining an appropriate balance between open water and habitat.

Root & Rhizome Removal
Bulrush and bur-reed develop extensive root systems and rhizomes beneath the water surface. Where repeated cutting is no longer sufficient, removing this underlying growth can provide a more lasting approach to controlling severe encroachment.
Grip rakes and grab buckets can reach below the water surface and remove root and rhizome material from the watercourse. This approach is particularly useful where excessive marginal growth is reducing the available waterway or blocking inlets and outlets.
